This musical comedy was written by Aj'a's dad, Dean Beattie, and Doug Johnson. It was produced by Footlight Theatre Company in Novermber 1998, running at the James Cowan Theatre. James without question earned the lead role as Leroy Fergusen. He actually learned to tap dance for the show and our choreographer, Heather Ross, was stunned at how fast and well he caught on! James' dad, Al Kirk was our assistant stage manager and while James carried the show on stage, Al definately carried the show backstage. In fact, Al even took a small role as 'Hedley' making his stage debut! The show was nominated for 13 CTC awards, and won 7 of them, including a special award of merit, breaking records in local theatre history! James won an award for Best Actor - and he was up against ALL male actors in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver and surrounding areas) many of which were proffesional adults!
